Location of the EarthQuake
The epicenter of the earthquake was located between Simeulue and mainland Indonesia (3.316°N, 95.854°E). The depth of the quake reached 30 kilometers (19 miles). The areas that were most affected by the tragic earthquake were Northern Sumatra, Indonesia and the Nicobar Islands in India.
In total, 14 islands ended up being affected by the earthquake and the following tsunami. The giant quake ended up triggering tsunamis that were observed all over the world and caused tremendous damage and deaths to the Indian Ocean region. Some of the other areas that were affected were Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Maldives, Somalia, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Seychelles. Even parts of Europe and Australia.
